Unveiling Asymptomatic Miliary-Type Osteoma Cutis Incidentally Detected in Craniocervical Computed Tomography Angiography: Two Case Reports
Main Article Content
Abstract
Objective: Osteoma cutis (OC) is a benign disorder characterised by the formation of nodules resulting from cutaneous ossification in the dermis and subcutaneous tissue. It is categorised into two main forms: the less common primary form (15-20%) and the more prevalent secondary form (80-85%), which arises as a consequence of an underlying condition. Given the scarcity of OC cases in the existing literature, we present two cases of asymptomatic miliary-type OC that were incidentally detected during craniocervical computed tomography angiography (CTA), with one case also compared to sinus CT findings.
Case 1: A 53-year-old male with left main coronary artery (LMCA) stenosis was admitted to the cardiovascular surgery clinic for a coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) operation. His craniocervical CTA revealed cutaneous ossifications in the maxillofacial region and forehead.
Case 2: A 53-year-old female patient with systemic arterial hypertension and diabetes presented to the hospital with complaints of dizziness and speech impairment. Her craniocervical CTA exhibited distinct cutaneous ossifications in the maxillofacial region.
Conclusion: Despite being classified as rare, OC is frequently overlooked due to its benign and asymptomatic nature, highlighting the importance of bringing this condition to the attention of clinicians.
